The Online Safety Bill in the UK does not always provide effective blocks to young children accessing sites they should not be accessing. Banning children in our view lets big tech off the hook. We need to hold these companies to account and continue supporting our young people with expanding their Internet Intelligence.

Who are ESS?
Education Safeguarding Services is now a trusted partner in promoting the welfare and safety of learners in educational environments. In the last year we have worked with a number of settings. We provide professional consultancy and invaluable resources to ensure compliance, awareness, and best practices in safeguarding. Whether through our expert advisory services or our curated library of complimentary tools, we are dedicated to empowering educational institutions to uphold the highest standards of safety and security. Our approach and understanding is routed in the real world with a deep understanding of the pressures that settings have to manage everyday.
What we can offer
Even though we are still only a year into operating we have already been able to offer all the services we feature on this website to various schools and settings. We have completed a number of safeguarding reviews ( 30+) to special schools, tutoring organisations and a specialist 16+ provision in the South East. We now work alongside a MAT with over 30 schools on reviewing their safeguarding provision. We are providing virtual supervision to DSLs, delivering training and have undertaken management investigations. To aid you we are upfront with our costs so you can make an informed decision about next steps.

Claire Ray
Independent Safeguarding Consultant
Claire Ray has spent over 20 years specialising in education safeguarding, managing Kent County Council’s Education Safeguarding Team for the past 8 years. She has also held various statutory child protection roles, including working as a LADO. Claire qualified as a social worker in 1999 before completing an MSc and Advanced Award in Social Work in 2005.
Robin Brivio
Independent Safeguarding Consultant
Robin is a qualified social worker working in a variety of roles in his 25 year career including front line social work with children as a practitioner and as a senior manager. He has also worked as the Local Authority Designated Officer and from 2018 worked for Kent County Council spearheading their own Education Safeguarding team before he left in late 2024 to set up his own venture.

Direct Advice and Support
ESS have put affordable packages together that enables settings to be able to call a consultant with non-urgent safeguarding concerns. The three different packages will give you access to a set number of calls you can use throughout the academic year. Click below for further details.

Safeguarding Training
ESS offer several different types of training for settings. Including basic safeguarding awareness for settings and Designated Safeguarding lead training. LGBTQ+, Gender Identity & Transition, Harmful Sexual Behaviour, Incel and the Manosphere half days. This can be delivered face to face or via Microsoft Teams.

Safeguarding Reviews
The purpose of the safeguarding review from ESS is to assist the safeguarding team in all settings (DSL, Headteacher and Safeguarding Governor) to ensure that they support effective safeguarding practice. It has been updated to reflect the needs of settings in 2025. The cost is £1200 plus VAT.

Management and Complaint Investigations
Occasionally settings need to source an independent person to carry out an investigation. Sometimes this can be a concern about a member of staff or a need for a complaint to be independently looked at. ESS have extensive experience of doing such pieces of work for early years settings, schools and colleges. We have completed several investigations in the last year already.
